Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) is a rapidly emerging alternative to conventional food marketing that creates a direct marketing relationship between the consumer and the farm. Families receive a weekly box of fresh homegrown, seasonal produce at a better-than-retail price. CSA’s allow growers to focus on land stewardship and maintain productive and profitable small farms while meeting needs of the community. Members have an opportunity to connect in a meaningful way with others who care about the food they eat and how it is grown.
The Red Root CSA bag feed two to three people depending on diet. Since all your vegetables are coming from a local farm, the food in your bag will vary according to the season. Vegetable type, as well as variety, will vary weekly. A weekly newsletter contains ups and downs of the south Alabama farm life and recipes for that week’s produce bag. The bag can be picked up at a designated location. Currently Red Root Farm offers pickup locations in Auburn, Montgomery, Troy, Dothan, and Banks AL.
The cost of membership in the CSA is better described as purchasing a seasonal share in Red Root Farm, in that a member enjoys the rewards and also takes the risks with the farmer. This means some weeks during the year a limited amount of produce may be available, but during most weeks, members are delighted with an abundance of veggies.
We encourage members to come and spend time at The Farm for pleasure, work or for the casual tour. Just contact us by telephone to work out the details.
